This sticky paper snowman craft is a very simple winter activity for kids.

My kids, although especially XGirl, are just a wee bit obsessed with snowmen. XGirl has never seen real snow, but QBoy has. A few years ago before XGirl joined our family, we spent Thanksgiving in Yosemite. One day we drove to Crane Flat, which is above 6,000 feet, and there was still some leftover snow. We got to throw a few snowballs, do a little sledding, and even build a snowman. This sticky paper snowman craft evoked very positive memories from the day we built our snowman.

Note: For more winter crafts your kids will love, see my Winter Activities for Kids page.

To do this craft, I gathered the following materials:

  • White paper cut into three different sized circles
  • Black paper cut in the shape of a hat and arms
  • Markers
  • Tissue paper squares
  • Clear contact paper that I placed into a blue paper frame I cut out

The kids peeled the back off the contact paper, giving them a frame with sticky paper inside. They assembled their snowmen by sticking the parts to the sticky paper.

Don’t forget the arms and hat!

PROJECT FAIL ALERT! One mistake we made was to add the face and buttons to the snowman AFTER it had been placed on the sticky paper. If you do this craft, decorate your snowman BEFORE placing it on the sticky paper, because the part you decorate needs to be placed face down on the sticky paper.

The part XGirl is decorating in the image below ended up being the BACK of the craft, meaning that her drawings could not be seen once the craft was complete. We fixed this mistake with QBoy’s snowman, which will be apparent below.

Once the snowmen were decorated and placed on the sticky contact paper, the kids used our tissue paper squares to add “snow” to the background.

Once they had filled in their background, I glued a white sheet of paper to the back and flipped the project over. Ta da! A sticky paper snowman craft!

Sounds fun! I have never looked into contact paper but that looks like it would be interesting. Do you buy your contact paper by a big roll? I guess I am going to have to look into it 🙂

I buy the roll that I link to the post. I guess it is a big roll! But we’ve used it for several projects so it doesn’t go to waste. 🙂
