One of my favorite symbols of winter is the snowman. Here is a simple plastic bottle snowman craft you can make while staying toasty and warm indoors this winter.

To make this plastic bottle snowman craft, gather the following materials:

  • an empty plastic bottle (e.g., an empty disposable water bottle)
  • fake snow
  • wiggle eyes
  • pipe cleaners
  • buttons
  • construction paper
  • scissors
  • glue

The first step is to fill the plastic bottle with fake snow. This got a bit messy. I put a sheet under my kids to help contain the mess made by the fake snow.

Once the bottle is filled, put the cap on tight. If you are concerned that your kids might unscrew the cap and empty or eat the fake snow inside, use super glue to seal the cap onto the bottle.

The next step is to use the materials at hand to create a snowman. Add wiggle eyes. Make a nose and other facial features out of construction paper if desired.

Poke pipe cleaners into the sides of the bottle to make arms. Toothpicks could also work, or even sticks from the yard.

Add buttons and ribbons for clothing. You might even want to create a hat.

I gave my kids lots of freedom to create their plastic bottle snowman crafts as they saw fit.
