Have you ever tried crayon resist painting? Kids think it is magic because images just begin to appear right before their eyes! For this crayon resist Easter painting activity, I wanted my kids to experience the joy of seeing a decorated egg come to life as they painted.

Note: This and other Easter activities can be found on my Easter activities for kids page.

For this activity, I printed out a blank egg worksheet from my Easter printable pack for each kid, and then I drew patterns on them using a white crayon.

Then I set up the activity with the following materials:

  • Blank egg worksheets on craft trays
  • Liquid water color paints (in a muffin tin)
  • Paintbrushes

I invited the kids to sit down and begin painting. They were excited to do some painting, and jumped right in.

Of course, it didn’t take long for them to notice the patterns appearing on their eggs.

They continued painting for quite a while. During this time, we talked about what shapes they noticed in the patterns and why the patterns were appearing.

They never quite filled the entire surface area of their eggs with paint, but they still had a ton of fun.

This is really cute. I’ve done this before with my kids (not on an egg) and with my Sunday School Class. They’ve always had just a good time with this project and what kid doesn’t like to paint?!
