Candy cane play dough is the perfect play dough for some Christmas sensory play. It is easy to make and will inspire your kids’ love of this famous Christmas candy.
Note: For more Christmas activities your kids will love, see my Christmas Activities for Kids page.
To make candy cane play dough, I whipped up two batches of play dough (we made gluten-free play dough using the recipe we found here, but any play dough recipe that makes white play dough will work). The first batch I dyed red with our liquid watercolor paints. The second batch I left white.
But to really make this candy cane play dough, the key ingredient is peppermint oil! All you need is a few drops to give your play dough a wonderful candy cane aroma.
You can find a great deal on peppermint oil if you purchase it as part of this candy flavoring set from Wilton Candy Flavoring Set. Alternately, you might prefer the peppermint oil from NOW Foods.
Once your have made your candy cane play dough, your kids can, of course, play with it however they want.
But it might be fun to roll out two long pieces, one red and one white.
And then it might be fun to twist them together into a candy cane shape.
I’m just saying, if you’ve got candy cane play dough, wouldn’t you like a little candy cane to go along with it? 🙂
