Corn, also known as maize, has been a very important crop to people in the Americas for thousands of years. It is generally believed that corn was domesticated in the area that is now Mexico several thousand years ago. Indigenous peoples learned to grow this crop and found a multitude of ways to prepare it for food.
Fall is a wonderful time to do a corn unit because autumn is the time when corn is generally harvested. You can, of course, study corn at any time of the year. If you are planning a corn unit study, I hope you’ll find some useful resources below.

My learning objectives for our corn unit include:
- Kids will understand that corn has been an important crop in the Americas for thousands of years
- Kids will be able to identify several foods that are made from corn
- Kids will be able to identify the parts of a corn plant
- Kids will be able to identify the parts of a corn stalk
Below you will find all of the corn-related posts that have been featured at Gift of Curiosity.
