Neither of my children have ever been particularly fond of puzzles. So that is why I was surprised – in a good way! – to see them enjoy these letter puzzles so much. In fact, they both kept asking to do “another one” and “another one.” With any luck, your children will enjoy my letter puzzles as much as mine did!
Therefore, the next installment in my 101 Ways to Teach the Alphabet Series is Letter Puzzles. Letter puzzles are not only a great way to teach the alphabet, they also support the development of children’s spatial awareness skills. You can grab your free printable Letter Puzzles at the end of this post.
My Letter Puzzles are simple and no-fuss, with four easy-to-cut puzzle pieces for each letter.
XGirl worked on assembling the capital ‘U.’
She did it!
Then she worked to assemble the lowercase ‘u.’
QBoy saw her working on the puzzles and wanted to join the fun. He first assembled this capital ‘W.”
Then he did the lowercase ‘w’ as well.
My kids kept asking for more and more puzzles. “Another one!” is what I heard over and over.
To make this activity fun and manageable for them, I provided them just four puzzle pieces at a time – enough to complete one letter.
For kids with more advanced skills, you could supply eight puzzle pieces at a time – enough to make both the uppercase and lowercase version of a letter, and have them figure out which pieces are for which letter.
Just remember to keep it enjoyable, because kids learn best when they are having fun.
