Valentine’s Day is celebrated on February 14 as a day of love. The modern Valentine’s Day celebration is derived from the ancient Roman festival of Lupercalia, a fertility celebration. During the 1st century, Pope Gelasius I recast this festival as a Christian feast day. However, Valentine’s Day was not associated with love until the 14th century.
On Valentine’s Day, people express their love and friendship by giving cards, flowers, candy, and presents to others. Common Valentine symbols include hearts, roses, Cupid, and the color red.
As a mom, I enjoy celebrating Valentine’s Day with my kids because it brings out the best in them. They get excited go give homemade gifts to all their friends and they are more free with their expressions of love.
