In this post I’m sharing a simple tutorial for how to make a pipe cleaner shamrock. With St. Patrick’s Day coming up, this is a perfect little craft to celebrate the holiday while also working on fine motor skills. Or simply use these pipe cleaner shamrocks to decorate your home, school, or office!

Note: This and other St. Patrick’s Day ideas can be found on my St. Patrick’s Day activities for kids page and my St. Patrick’s Day printables page.

How to make a pipe cleaner shamrock || Gift of Curiosity

To make your pipe cleaner shamrock, start with a 12″ green pipe cleaner.

Pipe cleaner shamrock 1

Bend 1.5″ off the end of the pipe cleaner to make the shamrock stem.

Pipe cleaner shamrock 2

Using just less than 3.5″ of pipe cleaner, make a loop and twist it around the initial bend in the pipe cleaner to help it hold.

Pipe cleaner shamrock 3

Using just less than 3.5″ of additional pipe cleaner, make a second loop and again twist it around the stem.

Pipe cleaner shamrock 4

Bend the remaining part of the pipe cleaner into a loop and gently twist the end around the stem to lock it into place. Now you have the basis for your three shamrock leaves.

Pipe cleaner shamrock 5

Gently push the in the middle of all three leaves in order to give them the characteristic heart shape of the shamrock leaves.

And that is how you make a pipe cleaner shamrock!
