Some of the most popular games in our house right now are search games. What are search games? Search games, as we play them, are a fun hide-and-seek game that allows kids to practice skills such as letters, numbers, shapes, colors, sight words, math facts, and much more.
I have now created a fully customizable set of six different Halloween search games that I am sharing with you in the hopes that your children will enjoy them as much as my children have.
Note: You can find more Halloween activities on my Halloween Activities for Kids page.
Many of my printable packs includes search games that focus on the letters of the alphabet. As part of my work teaching XGirl her letters, I have been using the princess-themed search game in my Princess Printables Pack. Well, QBoy, who is working on sight words rather than letters, was feeling quite left out. He kept asking for his own fire fighter themed search game. So I created one for him that was focused on the sight words he was learning that week.
That experience made me realize it would be a good idea to release some customizable search games that can be adapted to whatever skills your child is learning. You can use my Halloween search games printable to help your child learn letters, numbers, shapes, colors, sight words, or math facts.
How we use search games
Search games, as we play them, involve placing a number of picture cards face up on a table. Each picture card has a letter or sight word on it. One of the picture cards has a smaller card hiding underneath it.
The goal is for my kids to guess which of the large picture cards is hiding the small card. When I played this game with XGirl, she had to call out the letter on the card, then lift it up to see if the hidden card was underneath.
In our house, there is usually a celebratory dance when the hidden picture is found. 🙂
And the best thing about my Halloween search games printable is that it is customizable. I use it to teach XGirl her letters and QBoy his sight words.

I love this activity! I’ve been using it with my 6 year old and my 4 year old. Will you be sharing this same concept as a printable for other holidays? I’m especially interested in Thanksgiving and Christmas. Thanks for all the great resources to help me help my children enjoy learning!
