This was a simple apple tissue paper craft we did that involved “painting” using water and tissue paper. It was a totally new way of doing art for us, and my kids loved having an apple craft to show off at the end.

Note: For more apple activities, see my apple unit study page.

To make our apple tissue paper prints, I started by giving each kid a tray with the following materials:

  • A printed apple outline
  • A spray bottle filled with water
  • Tissue paper squares

The kids started by turning the apple outline upside down, so they were looking at the back of the paper. They then placed apple-colored tissue paper squares in the middle of the paper (where the apple outline would be on the other side).

Once they had placed their tissue paper squares, they used their water bottles to squirt the tissue papers. Using the spray bottle gives kids’ hands a great fine motor workout!

(Note: the apple outline began to bleed through the back of the paper as it got wet. This was not necessarily a problem, although I’m thinking now that printing it on cardstock rather than regular paper would have been better.)

One neat thing about tissue paper squares is that the color will bleed off the tissue paper when wet. So by squirting the tissue paper, my kids were “painting” the paper the same color as the tissue paper.

We waited a few hours for the tissue paper to dry. Then the kids peeled the dried tissue paper off their papers. We cut the apples out around the outlines. And voila! A completed apple tissue paper craft!
