Today I’m sharing a free printable resource to help children learn about states of matter. My States of Matter Sorting Cards will be a helpful addition to your lessons about states of matter.

After having done several activities to introduce states of matter, including reading several books about states of matter and exploring water in its three states, I created a set of printable States of Matter Sorting Cards for my kids to practice with.
I printed the cards for my kids and cut them apart.
They started by placing the label cards at the top of their work mat. I helped them read the three labels (solid, liquid, gas) to ensure they understood what each
They picked up one card at a time and identified the object on the card. We discussed whether the object on the card was a solid, liquid, or gas.
By the time they finished, they had sorted 10 objects into each of the three states of matter categories.
