Chinese New Year is the most important holiday of the year for Chinese people, although it isn’t only celebrated in China. The Lunar New Year, as the holiday is sometimes called because its date is tied to a lunar calendar, is celebrated in many Asian countries. However, the holiday is still best known in the western world as Chinese New Year. Many cities in the United States and other western countries hold Chinese New Year parades and celebrations each year.
There is a large and diverse Asian population where we live, including many people who celebrate the Lunar New Year. Our family has enjoyed attending Lunar New Year celebrations in our community. And at home we have done a few crafts and other activities to learn about Chinese New Year.
