My kids love any excuse to run around and go crazy. So when we did our apple unit last fall, I planned an outdoor activity that would allow them to do just that. Plus, I added some tongs to work on their fine motor skills. And voila! This apple fine motor game was created!

For our apple unit, I had purchased a number of plastic apples in both red and green colors. For this activity, we went outside and laid the apples out on the driveway by spreading them out a bit.
I then provided each kid with a pail and a set of tongs.
The object of the game was to collect all the apples as quickly as possible.
But to do so, they had to pick the apples up with their tongs and place them into their white pails. This was loads of fun, and there was much laughter and giggles as they did this.
But their pails were not large enough to hold all the apples they needed to collect. So when their pails filled up, they had to run to a larger basket I set up and dump their apples into the larger basket.
Then they took their pails and continued collecting more apples until they were all picked up!
