Ready to learn about apples this fall?
If you said “yes,” I’ve got just the resource you need!
My Apple 3-Part Cards have been available since last year as part of my Apple Unit Study bundle, and now I am making them available as a stand along product.
I highly recommend using these three part cards along with an apple dissection activity to give kids experience with both a real apple and the apple images on these cards.
Note: For more apple learning resources, see my Apple Unit Study page.

A number of the cards show different names for the same part of the apple. This was an intentional decision so that each person could choose to introduce the vocabulary most appropriate for the students they are working with.
The 15 cards in this set represent the following 8 parts of an apple:
- apple
- skin / exocarp
- core / endocarp
- leaf
- stem / stalk
- flesh / pulp / mesocarp
- seeds / pips
- blossom end / calyx

For each part of the apple there is a picture and label card, a picture-only card, and a label-only card.

There are many ways to use these cards to support your child’s interest and learning:
- Have your child match the picture-and-label cards to the picture-only cards to focus on the image for each part of the apple.
- Have your child match the label cards to the picture-and-label cards to focus on the written word for each part of the apple.
- Gather a couple of apples. Cut at least one of them up so you can see the interior of the apple. (You may wish to refer to this apple dissection post.) Give your child the picture-only cards or the picture-and-label cards. Have your child match the cards to the parts of the real apple.
- Have your child draw a picture of an apple and label the parts of the apple using the label cards.
- Lay out several picture-only or picture-and-label cards. Have your child select one part of an apple, but they are not to tell you which one they have selected. You must ask yes/no questions to figure out which one your child is thinking of. For example, you might ask, “Can we see this part without cutting into the apple?” “Is this a part of the apple we eat?” Model for your child how each answer allows you to eliminate certain parts of the apple from consideration by moving those cards to the side. After you have guessed which part of the apple your child was thinking of, switch roles and have your child guess.
