Similes and metaphors are two literary devices used to make comparisons. The difference between the two is that metaphors make a direct comparison (“My brother is a pig”) while similes use the words ‘like’ or ‘as’ to make a comparison (“My brother eats like a sloth”).
In this Halloween-themed worksheet, learners analyze sentences to determine what is being compared, and whether the comparison is being done using a metaphor or a simile. Finally, learners are asked to write the meaning of the comparison being made.
